The Nick Singh Foundation thenicksinghfoundation@gmail.com FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Nick Singh Foundation: From Long Island to Nicaragua, Turning a Conversation into a Community Mission LONG ISLAND, NY | January 2026 – Long Island based non-profit, The Nick Singh Foundation (NSF), recently completed an outreach trip to Nicaragua that began with a single conversation and grew into a multi-community mission of hope. The Nick Singh Foundation (NSF) just got back from traveling to the villages of Guadaloupe, La Ceiba, and Troilo, expecting to serve about 150 children. Instead, word spread quickly. Families arrived from neighboring areas. Children came hand-in-hand with siblings. Parents stayed, watching quietly. By the end of the week, more than 400 children and families had been served. It started months earlier with a conversation, when Chris Song spoke about families he knew in Nicaragua, he talked about everyday realities. Children sharing what little they had. Communities stretching resources far beyond what they were meant to. Parents doing everything they could with almost nothing to spare. What he shared was simple, but it carried urgency. Each village received hygiene kits, as many families lack consistent access to basic personal care items, so much so that volunteers took time to demonstrate how to use the supplies inside each bag. Toothbrushes were donated by The Joseph Toles Foundation®, with Northwell Health providing both toothbrushes and toothpaste. Sponsor funding made it possible to purchase soap, floss, and additional essentials, helping families care for themselves with dignity. Bread and drinks were shared in every village, and NSF also donated a full month’s worth of food to Iglesia Bautista ADULAM. At one table, crayons and coloring took place. As children finished coloring, they began walking the crayons back and placing them into Emily Rivera’s hands, assuming they were meant to be returned. The expectation was not explained. It was learned. When Emily stopped them and told them the crayons were theirs to keep, the moment revealed a quiet truth about access, ownership, and the contrast many in the United States rarely have to confront. Reflecting on that moment, Rivera shared, “The kids thought the crayons had to be returned. They don’t have the privilege of being able to afford coloring sheets, let alone owning their own crayons. It was so eye-opening to see the difference compared to America.” On the fields, sports carried that same weight of meaning. Baseball and soccer were familiar, but having materials they could reuse changed everything. With baseball equipment sponsored by Perez Bros Baseball and soccer balls from The Joseph Toles Foundation®, children joyfully played freely, knowing the equipment would remain in their communities. Nick Singh and Smith Brickner led baseball and soccer instruction, emphasizing fundamentals, teamwork, and confidence, not as a one-time experience, but as a foundation they could build on. Brickner mentioned, “ Getting to teach soccer and baseball to the kids in Nicaragua was a great flashback to my childhood, when I had incredible people sacrificing their free time to teach me how to play each sport. Being in Nicaragua brought the little kid out of me again, only this time I was the one teaching and serving them. Seeing those kids with huge smiles on their faces after we finished playing was a full circle moment I’ll forever cherish.” Music and movement soon filled the villages. Dance sessions led by Emily Rivera and Sara Song broke through language barriers. Musical chairs erupted in laughter. Mirror dancing and classic American dances such as the Hokey Pokey, Chicken Dance, Cupid Shuffle, and Cotton Eye Joe brought children and families together in shared joy. Educational resources were woven throughout the week, including beginner Spanish-to-English books for each village. A 15-year-old local translator, Yeshua, played a key role in bridging conversations, demonstrating leadership and maturity well beyond his years. Some moments went far beyond programming. A man whose leg had been broken because his wheelchair was no longer safe was gifted a new one, restoring mobility and security. Another individual facing a life-threatening medical condition was connected with a sponsor who committed to covering his treatment costs monthly, ensuring care would continue long after the team returned home. Chris Song shared, “ It has been an absolute honor to stand alongside Nick and his incredible team at The Nick Singh Foundation. Together, we served four communities across Nicaragua, bringing hope, resources, and life-on-life fellowship to families in desperate need. Their love and compassion remind us that true impact comes when hearts and hands unite—transforming lives, one act of service at a time.” This is why the story matters beyond Nicaragua, and why it matters on Long Island. The generosity that filled these villages began at home, through local donors, partners, and volunteers who chose to act. Because this was never meant to be a one-time trip. Nick Singh said, “This trip reminded me that we should never underestimate the smallest acts of generosity, because what feels small to us can mean everything to someone else. What we expected to be 150 people became nearly 400, simply because word spread, and we were met with warmth, joy, and open hearts everywhere we went in Nicaragua. While we came believing we would make an impact, the truth is that the people and families we served left an even deeper mark on our team.
